Three ways into
the sound.

Cristian Fatu with piano

Most soloists tour a repertoire. Cristian tours a question, how a violin actually makes its sound, and answers it three ways: from inside the acoustics workshop, from the Romanian repertoire he grew up in, and from the Hollywood scoring stages where he records.

Half programme, full evening, or with a pre-concert talk; repertoire and length adapt to the room.

01

Inside the Sound

A lecture-recital on how a violin actually works: wood, strings, frequencies; built from thirteen years inside the Oberlin Acoustics Workshop and from string development with Thomastik-Infeld. Playing alternates with explanation, and two instruments, modern and baroque, are compared in the room.

03

From the Scoring Stage

The film-music programme, drawn from the sessions at Capitol Records, Fox and Warner Brothers; what the violin does inside a score, played by someone who has experienced first hand the old Hollywood sound.
